Pasta with tuna and tomato sauce
Pasta with a quick sauce of crushed tomatoes, onion, pepper and tinned tuna – one of the easiest weeknight dinners in Uruguay and Argentina. It is also made with a splash of cream stirred in at the end.

Ingredients for 4 portions
- 1Yellow onion, chopped
- 1Bell pepper, red, chopped
- 2 clovesGarlic, chopped
- 2 tbspRapeseed oil
- 500 gCrushed tomatoes
- 1 tspOregano
- to tasteSalt
- to tasteBlack pepper
- 500 gPasta, short pasta such as fusilli
- 350 gTuna, 2 tins, drained
Method
- Put a large pan of salted water on to boil for the pasta. Chop the onion, pepper and garlic.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan or saucepan and cook the onion and pepper over a medium heat for 6 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and oregano, season with salt and pepper and simmer the sauce for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions.
- Stir the tuna into the sauce, breaking it into flakes, and heat through for 2 minutes.
- Drain the pasta, toss it with the sauce and serve.
