Pasta bake with ham, leek and peas
An old-fashioned Swedish macaroni pudding made new: pasta, ham, leek and peas in an egg custard, baked with a cheese crust.

Ingredients for 4 portions
- 300 gPasta, such as macaroni or penne
- 250 gHam, cooked ham, diced
- 1Leek
- 1 tbspButter
- 3Eggs
- 5 dlMilk
- 150 gGrated cheese
- to tasteSalt
- to tasteBlack pepper
- 200 gGreen peas, frozen
Method
- Heat the oven to 200 °C. Bring plenty of salted water to the boil and add the pasta.
- Cook the pasta 2 minutes less than the packet says, so it does not go soft in the oven. Drain.
- Dice the ham. Trim, rinse and slice the leek and soften it in the butter for a few minutes.
- Whisk the eggs and milk together and season with salt and pepper.
- Mix the pasta, ham, leek and frozen peas in a greased ovenproof dish. Pour over the egg mixture and sprinkle with the cheese.
- Bake in the middle of the oven for 30–35 minutes, until the custard has set and the top is golden.
- Let the bake stand for a few minutes to set, and serve with a green salad if you like.
