Kebab stew with rice and garlic sauce
A creamy tomato stew with doner kebab meat, peppers and onion, served with rice, cool garlic sauce and salad – a Swedish school-dinner favourite that is easy to make at home.

Ingredients for 4 portions
- 1Yellow onion
- 2 clovesGarlic
- 1Bell pepper, in strips
- 500 gDoner kebab meat, in strips
- 1 tbspRapeseed oil
- 1 tspPaprika
- 1 tbspTomato paste
- 400 gCrushed tomatoes
- 2 dlCooking cream
- to tasteSalt
- to tasteBlack pepper
On the side
- 3 dlRice
- 2 dlCreamy garlic sauce
- ½Lettuce, shredded
- 2Tomatoes, in wedges
- ½Cucumber, sliced
Method
- Bring the rice to the boil with water and salt according to the packet instructions.
- Cook the rice under a lid over a low heat for about 18 minutes.
- Peel and chop the onion and garlic. Deseed the pepper and cut it into strips.
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the kebab meat over a high heat for 3–4 minutes, until browned. Add the onion, garlic and pepper and fry for another 2–3 minutes.
- Stir in the paprika and tomato purée. Add the crushed tomatoes and cream and simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Shred the lettuce, cut the tomatoes into wedges and slice the cucumber.
- Serve the stew with the rice, garlic sauce and salad.
